it means he thinks that foriners dont whait there turn.
Was Mortenson at risk having tea with the Taliban?
no
Describe the happenings at the American Consulate in Katmandu, Nepal.
he gets intervied by feds.
How does William Butler Yeat's "The Second Coming" relate to Three Cups?
it talks about the crazy mixed up world and he was in the worst place at the wost time.
A Wahhabi Madrassa is a religious school that extreme muslims in Pakistan built. The schools take the elite students back to their country where they serve for a few years and then are incouraged to move back to Pakistan and marry 4 wives. The signifigance of the title is that Greg was in Pakistan working when 9/11 happened. He was told that a village called New York had been bombed and that lots of Americans had died. Mortenson says the true core tenants of Islam are justice, tolerance, and charity. Syed Abba's speech was about the great works of Greg and he implored upon the crowd why it took a man from America to get there kids education, and why they couldn't. He said they should back up greg 100% and he thanked Greg greatly for his efforts.
This is when greg goes to the Mariot and the news channels are stationed at the Mariot post 9/11. Bush hasn't started war yet but it is coming and the restraunt is swamped with people. Since Greg is known by locals a waiter told him and his friend Kathy who is a news reporter to come with him to a table that is almost open. There was a lot of confusion and panic at the time, so everything was hectic. Greg was kind of at risk but not really, he at risk because it was a major leader of the Taliban he was talking to, but it was in a hotel with tons of news crews and people in it.Greg was denied a temporary passport in Pakistan, and so he got a flight to Katmandu because he heard the U.S. Embassy there was more understanding. The man looks at his passport and told him to return the next day. He does and then he is questioned by interogaters about what he was doing in Pakistan, or If he knew terroist, if he knew where Osama was, and it was a big ordeal. Finally they gave him a temporary passport, but grudgingly. The "Second Coming" relates to the book because it is talking about things falling apart, how like the falconer calls the falcon but the falcon does not hear, and thats showing how people arn't listening to each other and things like that. The poem relates because Pakistan is collapsing with the U.S. attacking and the state it is in and the poem is talking about that kind of stuff.
A Wahhabi Madrassa is a school the teaches a fundamentalist version of Islam, while boarding students to keep them away from others who see differently. The students are encouraged to take four wives after leaving school, which would increase the number of people taught the version of Islam, which would result in an entire population knowing only one teaching. They teach hatred of the Americans.
The setting of the chapter is the days and hours before and after the tragedy of 9/11. Also, Fasial Baig apologizes for the bombing of "...a village called New York..."
Syed Abbas apologizes extensively for the atrocities the Taliban had caused, and recited the true core tenants of Islam. The true core tenants of Islam are justice, tolerance, and charity.
Mortenson visits the "circus" at the Marriot hotel that he frequents. After the events of 9/11, press crews packed the hotel looking for a story. A waiter that often served Mortenson and Gannon showed them to a table before the rude Americans could occupy it. Mortenson was well enough known as being a man that did nothing if not help the children of Pakistan, which meant that he was safe with most all domestics of Pakistan.
The American Consulate obviously thought Mortenson was a mole, and questioned him extensively as to what he was doing in Pakistan. I think it relates more to the events of 9/11 than 3CoT, because of the way we (America) handled it.
Ch. 19-
A Wahhabi Madrassa is a group who also builds schools but the way that Apo described them was they were like a bee. They build schools but they are making the students study something different, so they will take over Pakistan. "They're churning out gerneration after generation of brainwashed students and thinking twenty, forty, even sixty years ahead to a time when their armies fo extremism will have the numbers to swarm over Pakistan and the rest of the Islamic world." (page 244)
I believe the significance of the title is that the people of Pakistan didn't know that the Taliban was going to bomb New York, because Mortenson's bodygaurd sounded scared when he told Mortenson.
1) The Wahhabi Madrassa are a fundamentalist and extreamist Sunni offshoot that is mostly made up of the rich. They bring in money from oil and build "schools" that train the poor (2 million) children in jihad. It is said that 15-20% of those in the schools reciece military training (pg 244)
2) I think the way the Pakistani's talked about New York being a village is what made the title important. I also think the quote really represented the feelings of the exteamist in the area.
3) Syed Abbas speech was about encouraging families to get their children educated so that they could have the hope of a brighter future. He also mentioned that he was sorry for what happened in New York.
4) Greg said that he wished that Americans could see the true nature of Islam, a peaceful and caring religon, and not the violent terrist groups.
What is a Wahhabi Madrassa? How are they significant? (Explain their purpose and what they hope to achieve - use facts and figures to back up your statement)
Wahhabi Madrassa's are schools where the best students are sent in the heart of Shiite Baltistan. Apo says its like a bee hive because it is so busy and because of the way its built. They are teaching Jihad and they are also beeing taught muslim religion and they are beeing taught about war and about fighting. They were beeing taught military trainging and hatred of the west. The children were becoming Taliban recruits.(pg.244)
What is the signifcance of the chapter 19 title?
It is significant because this is when the twin towers of new york were bombed, and also because of the Wahhabi Madrassa's. They are not teaching the normal cirriculum, but instead they are teaching negativity and hatered.
Explain
Paraphrase Syed Abbas speech
Syed Abbas's speech was about keeping peace in Pakistan and America. He was asking Allah to keep Greg and George out of harms way so they could finish mission. He was also saying that the word muslim did not mean terrorist. He was saying that the great majority of muslims are terrorists and that most of them were just good simple people. He didnt want America to see the muslims as bad people. Most importantly he was asking for forgiveness.
What does Mortenson say the true core tenants of Islam are?
He said the true core tenants of Islam are justice, tolerance, and charity.
Chapter 19 –
1. A Wahhabi Madrasa is a school where the smartest student is takin by sheikhs from Kuwait and Saudi and is encouraged to have multiple wives. There are some of these schools where students are genuinely taught the necessities, but a lot of these Wahhabi Madrassas teach militant jihad and fire up a hate for Americans. With millions of Pakistani students attending Madrassa more than 80,000 became Taliban recruits. In chapter 19 it says: “The Madrassa system targeted the impoverished students the public system failed.” A Madrassa offers a free room and boarding which provides millions of parents with their only chance to educate their children.
2. This chapter is when 9/11 occurred so when Baig wakes Mortenson up he says “A village called New York has been bombed.”
3. Syed Abbas basically said that the men who did the bombing did not do it in the name of Islam. He also asked Mortenson for forgiveness and requested that he be protected. He also said that they are good people and that not all of Pakistan is terrorists.
Capter 19
1. A Wahhabi Madrassa is a building that has many students hidden inside and they are tought war tactics. they compare the building to a "bee house", they are significant beause there train the students how to fight in battle and they are brainwashed to hate americans.
2. The reson they called the chapter what they did, was because there was a village called "New York" that was bombed from what mortenson was told.
3. He apologizes for what the taliban had caused. he also recited the core tenants of islam. the true core tenants are justice, tolerance, and chairty.
Chapter 20
1. What is happening is that the waiter was telling them that there is a table nearily available table and the should get to it before the foreigners because the foreigners are very unpatient and will take it in a hurry.
2. No he wasn't because he was no threat to the taliban.
3. The Feds sat next to him and started to ask him questions.
4. He is relating the things that have been happening there to what has been happening in america. for example: the Village "New York" and what happened on 9/11.
What is a Wahhabi Madrassa? How are they significant? (Explain their purpose and what they hope to achieve - use facts and figures to back up your statement) They are sort of like Mortenson they are building schools for kids that don’t have any education. But on a huge scale but they are teaching from a Muslim point of view. And in some parts where Taliban are present they are the teachers of the school so they teach Jihad. Those schools are known as Jihad hotbeds where most of the Taliban leadership came from. They all aren’t like that but some schools are.
What is the significance of the chapter 19 title? Explain.
Paraphrase Syed Abbas speech. Syed abbas speech was to initiate the school but since it was after 9/11 he talked about how Mortenson was brave and wasn't jumping to any conclusions about it. Also he said that the people that inflicted hurt on other people would have justice brought upon them by Allah
What does Mortenson say the true core tenants of Islam are? Justice Tolerance and Charity
Blog Chapter 20 -Tea With The Taliban
"Dr. Greg, Shib, Madame Kathy, come,"...."a table is nearly available, and I fear....foreigners will simply grasp it." Describe what is happening in this situation and what it means. He was saying that foreigners would just take what they wanted when they wanted like a table to sit down and not ask if it is alright and what not.
Was Mortenson at risk having tea with the Taliban? No not then they were just a group of people plus they weren’t the extremist kind they just agree with the views probably. It said in the book that they were part of the group that was scared about going to war with America and kind of wanted to hand over Osama but if war came they would fight to the end.
Describe the happenings at the American Consulate in Katmandu, Nepal. They thought he was a American terrorist or had terrorist connections since he visited Pakistan a lot. The post 9/11 world was filled with suspicion and people just jumping to conclusions. They interrogated him about what he did and why he was in Pakistan a lot.
How does William Butler
Yeat's "The Second Coming" relate to Three Cups? When Krakauer quoted the book he read "Mere anarchy is loose and everywhere/ The ceremony of innocence is drowned/ The best lack all conviction while the worst are full of passionate intensity." That quote basically summed up this book Mortenson is helping the innocent and the weak. Pakistan was in anarchy since 9/11 with the war looming and Mortenson was the only "good guy" that was full of passionate work that few if any would ever take up in 5 life times
Chapter 19:
Wahhabism is a conservative, fundamentalist offshoot of Sunni Islam and the official state religion of Saudi Arabia's rulers.
A Wahhabi Madrassa is "Pakistan's most virulent incubator of religious extremism". It is full of children who are being trained the way of "Wahhabi". They are being taught that Americans are bad, and things along those lines that promote terrorism. They are significant because without them, there wouldn't be so much hatred in the East towards America. They hope to make the children of their country hate America as much as they do. They're trying to keep the spirit alive in their children. The children in these Madrassas are being taught an Islamic-based curriculum. More than 80,000 of these students become Taliban recruits.
Chapter 19's title is significant because this is how the Pakistanis respond to the bombs on New York. They know as much about New York as we know as much about their country. If they knew what New York is, they wouldn't called it a village; and if they knew what was going to happen to New York (the attacks) they wouldn't have been acting so "stupid" and calling it a village (or saying "a village called New York has been bombed!" without knowing that it had actually been attacked by planes).
"We thank Greg and George for their contribution to our village, and are truly sympathetic to the situation in New York. We hope that Allah will service justice upon those who have committed this evil act among the innocent. Parents and fathers, dedicate your full effort and commitment to make sure your children are educated. Also, I hope that Americans will look into our hearts and see that we are not all terrorists."
The true core tenants of Islam are justice, tolerancec, and charity.
Chapter 20:
In this situation, a lot of news stations around the world are in Pakistan to get some stories about it. The hotel Greg is staying in (the Marriot) is packed with reporters and crew members from all over the world. I think the waiter said this because he has the idea about Americans that we are all impatient (which would explain why we would take the table as soon as it was ready)
Mortenson wasn't at risk when he had tea with the Taliban because there were a lot of other people around him, and Mortenson went in with good intentions. The taliban also supports him building the schools.
In Katmandu, Nepal, Mortenson went there because he wanted to get a new passport. The guard acted suspicious, and told him to come back the next day. When he did, he was escorted across the lawn of the American diplomat compound and was questioned. They thought he was part of the terrorist group, and that he knew where Osama was.
"The Second Coming" relates to Three Cups of Tea because it said "things fall apart; the centre cannot hold. Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, the blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere/ The cermony of innocence is drowned; the best lack all conviction, while the worst, are full of passionate intensity" which is similar to the situation because it talks about how these bad people are attacking innocent people without even caring. They are the ones with the power, and they are causing a lot of destruction.
The Wahhabi Madrassa are building schools as Mortenson is although Saudi Arabia is conducting the Wahhabi Madrassa. Although there intentions are completely different. The Madrassas curriculm is based of Wahhabism. "Wahhabism is a conservative, fundamentalist offshoot of Sunni Islam and the official state religion of Saudi Arabai's rulers."(Page 242) They also say "They're churning out generation after generation of brainwashed students and thinking twenty, forty, even sixty years ahead to a time when their armies of extremist will have the numbers to swarm over Pakistan and the rest of the Islamic world."(Page 244)
I think “A Village called New York” was chosen as the title because it is the main idea of the chapter and it also illustrates the idea of New York to the Pakistani people.
1.What is a Wahhabi Madrassa? How are they significant? (Explain their purpose and what they hope to achieve - use facts and figures to back up your statement)
-A Wahhabi Madrassa is a school sort of like a military school in America. They train many students in this school for a couple years, teaching them mostly about religion and Americans. Usually teaching them to hate Americans. They are usually there for a couple years and then they are sent out to find four wives. On page 244, Apo was describing these schools as beehives. Instead of honey, they are churning up brainwashed extremists hating the west.
2.What is the signifcance of the chapter 19 title? Explain
-The reason that the title is important is because he was in Pakistan when September 11 happened, and he heard what had happened through village members, saying “I’m sorry for your loss of A village called New York.” It was sad that he found out that way.
3.Paraphrase Syed Abbas speech
-In this speech, Abbas was introducing the school to the city. This day was after September 11, 2001, he was saying how he was sorry for the loses and hopes that America does not think the whole country is terrorists. He told the whole crowd to make sure all the children go to school and use the resource that was put in front of them. He was also sad at this time that the people of their country could not provide them a school and it had to be made from Americans.
4.What does Mortenson say the true core tenants of Islam are?
-Justice, Tolerance and Charity
Blog Chapter 20 -Tea With The Taliban
1."Dr. Greg, Shib, Madame Kathy, come,"...."a table is nearly available, and I fear....foreigners will simply grasp it." Describe what is happening in this situation and what it means
-A waiter walks up to Greg, knowing him of course and says to come so that he will get a seat. He simply says the foreigners will get the seat because the will just go and sit down and take a seat. The nice waiter escorts them over because even though Greg is not really at risk, he doesn’t want to take a chance. There are many people in the restaurant at the Marriott because of 9/11. All the news reporters are everywhere.
2. Describe the happenings at the American Consulate in Katmandu, Nepal.
-Mortenson went to Katmandu where the American Consulate were. When he got there though he was shocked. They took his passport and would not let him through. He had to stay there until three guys came in to interrogate him. They asked him a lot of questions, some of them he didn’t know how to answer. In the end Mortensen got a one year passport and he went back to the hotel.
3.How does William Butler Yeat's "The Second Coming" relate to Three Cups?
-This quote relates a lot because of what happened one 9/11 and how Mortensen wants to help the innocent people. I mean it’s not like the whole country attacked. Only a few stupid people. Mortensen just wants too help as much as he can.
Chapter 19
1. A wahibi madrassa is a large compound with twenty foot walls surounding it. It is about 200 yards long and has many students hidden inside and they teach the students war tactics. But there are also some good ones.
2. They are significant because some of them are basically brainwashing the students inside to hate americans and to kill them.
3. The reason they called this chapter, "A Village Called New York" is because on page 253, mortensons bodyguard told him that a village called New York had just been bombed.
4. Syed basically apologizes for the things that the talliban have done. He also told of the true core tenants of the of islam. They are tolerance, justice, and charity.
Chapter 20
1. Greg and Kathy go and eat at the marriot, and the waiter that knows them well says to come and get the table before the impatient americans in the hotel got to it. what it basically means is that there are alot of reporters over there now trying to get a story because of the attacks.
2.No, because he wasn't a threat to them because the taliban knew that he was helping the pakistan kids get an education.
3. The American Consulate wondered what he was doing in pakistan.
1. They like to call themselves a peace organization, but in reality they are in little schools but instead of giving them proper schooling that they need, they were teaching them all horrible things like how to hate the west and telling them lies about what bad we do and how awful we are. This saddens Mortenson, every time he walks past one of these schools because he knows what is really going on inside.
2. The chapter is called "A Village Called New York" because in this chapter September 11th happens. Mortenson’s body guard was the one who broke the news to him about the twin towers. He called it a village because that is what their regions are called so he just assumed that we called it a village also.
3. Syed Abbas's speech was basically telling America to be rational about this whole 9/11 thing and how not every Islamic person is bad. He is basically pleading with America trying to tell them to seriously rethink retaliation on Islam because they would be killing off peace-loving farmers.
4. Just peace loving farmers.
1. They are waiting for a table at a restaurant and the weightier grabbed them quickly because he knew him.
2. Well considering that they tried to kill him, yes I do think that it was a bad Idea.
3. They are discussing what to do about Al-Qaeda.
4. After reading the poem The Second Coming, by William Butler Yeats, I would say that it relates to the book Three Cups of Tea in the way that the people there are not as educated as people in America but they still have the same feelings and most of them have the best intentions.
C19:
A Wahhabi Madrassa is a religious school designed like a "bee house". The best students go there to learn Wahhabism, a fundamentalist version of Sunni Islam. After they complete their schooling, they are encouraged to take four wives, thereby increasing the number of people bound to the Wahhabi beliefs, which include an inborn hate of any and all Americans."'...For the first time I understood the scale of what they were trying to do and it scared me.'" "'1,100 mosques, schools, and Islamic centers.'" "...thirty-eight hundred mosques...$45 million on 'Islamic Education'...six thousand teachers."
The reason they chose "A Village Called New York" for the title is that while these events were occuring, the tragic events of 9/11 took place. Mortenson was informed that "...a village called New York" had been bombed.
Syed Abbas appologized for the actions of the Taliban, saying that they are not truly the way of Allah.
The true core tenants of Islam are Justice, Tolerance, and Charity.

What is a Wahhabi Madrassa? How are they significant? (Explain their purpose and what they hope to achieve - use facts and figures to back up your statement)
Its a place where many student are hidden insice like a (like a bee house) thats what Apo said.
What is the signifcance of the chapter 19 title? Explain
The title of this chapter is called a A villaged Called new York, becase Dr. Greg started noticing that that Faisal thought that New York was a small village that had just been bombed by the terrorist.
Paraphrase Syed Abbas speech
in Abbas speech he was trying to say that one should charish that they had (education) and that would the way to stop terrorisim.
What does Mortenson say the true core tenants of Islam are?
charity.

Describe the happenings at the American Consulate in Katmandu, Nepal.
they started interigatin mortenson because they thought he was a terrorist so they asked him where Osama was.
How does William Butler Yeat's "The Second Coming" relate to Three Cups?
a lot of bad things are happening in they contry and mortenson wants to help out as much as posible.
1. What is a Wahhabi Madrassa? Religious school. How are they significant? (Explain their purpose and what they hope to achieve - use facts and figures to back up your statement)
2. What is the significance of the chapter 19 title? Explain. In place for the Twin Towers of 9/11
3. Paraphrase Syed Abbas speech. The terrorist are bad. What they are doing is wrong it is not the way of god, please forgive them.

Blog Chapter 20 -Tea With The Taliban
5. "Dr. Greg, Shib, Madame Kathy, come,"...."a table is nearly available, and I fear....foreigners will simply grasp it." Describe what is happening in this situation and what it means.
1. Hurry before the foreigners’ will take the table
6. Was Mortenson at risk having tea with the Taliban?
1. no the Taliban do not fined him a threat
7. Describe the happenings at the American Consulate in Katmandu, Nepal.
1. He could not get a new passport but he was invited by the feds instead.
8. How does William Butler Yeat's "The Second Coming" relate to Three Cups?
1. He wants us to see the real side of the islams not the terrist side
A Wahhabi Madrassa is a religious school that extreme Muslims in Pakistan built. The students are encouraged to take four wives after leaving school, which would increase the number of people, taught the version of Islam. Thus results in the inevitability of a population all believing in Islam. “$45 million on “Islamic Education”. Six thousand teachers."
While he was over seas he found of the terrorists attack on New York and the Twin Towers. Thus the naming of this chapter to be “A Village Called New York”, it related to him and the impact it had while he was over seas.
In Syed Abbas speech given, he apologizes for the renegade Islamic people that attacked America and hopes America doesn't judge all Islamic people by these actions. Allah does not stand for these actions. justice, tolerance, and charity is what he is for.
I think the waiter said this because he has the idea about Americans that we are all impatient and takes anything that is available as it comes open.
the significance of the title of the chapter is the twin towers were destroyed during that time.
In the speech by Syed Abbas he said that he is against terrorism, that it is not the way of and that American's won't judge all Islam's by the actions of a few. He also asked for forgiveness.
Mortenson says that the core tenants of Islam are justice, charity, and tolerance
1. The Wahhabi Madrassa is a Islamic peace organization or so they say. These people from Saudi Arabia come to Pakistan and go to all the little villages around the area and give them money to build a school and a mosque. This looks all good from the outside but really what is going on in the school and the mosque is the teaching of extremist Islam and not reading, writing, and arithmetic. These mosques are a breeding ground for the Taliban.
2.The significance of the title is that it is happening while the September 11 attacks are happening. This is what his bodyguard said to him when the bodyguard woke up Mortenson and said " A Village called New York was attacked by terrorists.
3. What I belive that Syed Abbas was trying to say in his speech is. we should not generalize as americans about Islam that Most of the people who follow the path of Islam are not extremists and that he feels horribe for what these people did to the American people.
4. Mortenson says that the true core tenants of islam are justice, tolerance, and charity.
Chapter 20
1. What is happening is at the Marriot in Pakistan Mortenson and a reporter he knows are waiting for a table at the buffet. A restaurant within the hotel, and one of the members of the staff come over and tells them that he has a table for them. But that he is afraid that one of the members of the press (that is there now will) steal it. I think that it means that Mortenson and this reporter are no longer considered feigners and are considered to be one of his countrymen.
2. I don’t believe that he was in danger having tea with these Taliban men. Why? Because I think that these men are some of the few Taliban that actually realize that housing Osama may be a bad idea. Because they realize that this means war with the American Military.
3. What was going on in the consulate was the CIA was interviewing him to see if he was a terrorist. After the interview witch took two days was over he had a replacement passport. He had to do this because a Taliban guard at the border had ripped up his original one.
4. It is basically saying the same thing that the Three Cups is saying. That is that you cannot judge a whole society because of the actions of a few horrible people.
Chapter 19 – A Village Called New York
1.Wahhabi madrassas are schools that were being constructed everywhere through out Pakistan by the Wahhabi, who are people who follow a conservative, fundamentalist offshoot of Sunni. The schools were being funded by the endless amount of money that smugglers brought through Pakistan. These schools were being used to brainwash children to become extremists.
"Apo calling wahhabi madrassas beehives is exactly right. They're churning out generation after generation of brainwashed students and thinking twenty, forty, even sixty years ahead to a time when their armies of extremism will have the numbers to swarm over Pakistan and the rest of the Islamic World." (pg 244-245)
2. I think that the title is very significant to understanding how many Pakistani think. Faisal Baig, Mortenson's loyal bodyguard, was the man who said this after hearing the news of 9/11. "A village called New York has been bombed." (pg 253) Baig, like many people of Pakistan, probably has little to no education and only knows the ways of life in Pakistan. When he calls New York a village, it shows that he has little understanding of America, as do many people from the Mid East. They only know what they have been taught.
3. When Abbas says, “Today, from the darkness of illiteracy, the light of education shines bright.” (pg 257), it is clear that he believes, along with Mortenson, that the main reason 9/11 happened was because of the lack of education and the schools that Mortenson is building are necessary to make things better. He also says that the terrorists did not commit the act in the name of Islam, which many people believe. When Abbas says, “...dedicate your full effort and commitment to see that all your children are educated. Otherwise, they will merely graze like sheep in a field, at the mercy of nature and the world changing so terrifyingly around us.” (pg 257), he means that if the children aren’t educated properly, they will go by things they hear, possibly getting brainwashed, from uneducated angry people, much like what is happening in the Wahhabi Madrassas. At the end of the speech, he informs people that most of the Islam people are good, simple people and that hopefully America will understand that.
4. Mortenson says that the true core tenants of Islam are justice, tolerance, and charity. (pg 257)
Blog Chapter 20 -Tea With The Taliban
1. A waiter from the Marriot Hotel is saying this to Mortenson and Gannon, a fierce reporter, after they had been waiting for a while for the area, which was busy with pushy reporters, to clear out. I think the waiter respects Mortenson and Gannon much more than the other reporters and so he is helping them get a table quickly. I think that when he says that the foreigners will take it, he is referring to how pushy they are and how he probably wouldn’t be able to do much about it if they did take the table because they could report something bad about him or other Muslims.
2. Mortenson was at a slight risk by having tea with the Taliban. He could have said something that the Taliban could have taken offense to and that could have ended up badly but Mortenson usually knows what to say and what not to say. They were also having tea in a very crowded place, where there were more people against the Taliban than with them, so I doubt that the Taliban wanted to cause that much trouble for themselves at that time and place.
3. In Nepal, a consular official looked through Mortenson’s passport and saw that many of the visas were issued by the Northern Alliance. He became very nervous, took the passport and asked Mortenson to return the next day. When Mortenson returned, he was sent to the American diplomatic compound and left in an empty room. Three American men came in and heavily questioned him about his work in Pakistan. Finally, he was issued a temporary one-year passport.
4. William Butler Yeat's "The Second Coming" relates to the way much of the government is in the Mid East, especially after war started. When it says, “Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,/The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere/ The innocence is drowned;” it means that when there are no rules and people do what they want to, it is hard to maintain innocence. When it says, “The best lack all conviction, while the worst/Are full of passionate intensity”, it relates to the terrorists, being the worst, because they are very intense horrible people who feel strongly about their extreme beliefs, hence their name extremists.
Chapter 19:
1. A Wahhabi Madrassa is a religious school that is built by extreme Islamic fundamentalists. This school teaches only Muslim beliefs and convinces the children to have hatred for Americans. This is significant because the students are instructed to take four wives after graduating from the school. Thus results in the majority of the Pakistan population to be educated only on the beliefs of Muslim.
"They're churning out generation after generation of brainwashed students and thinking twenty, forty, even sixty years ahead to a time when their armies of extremist will have the numbers to swarm over Pakistan and the rest of the Islamic world."(Page 244)
2. The title of Chapter 19 is A Village Called New York. The significance of this title is that the problems involving education in the middle east not only affect local areas but also the world. The attack on the Twin Towers is a representation of this idea.
3. Syed Abbas was apologizing for the attack on 9/11. He tries to explain that the Islamic religion does not support the Taliban's actions and that not all Islams are insincere and full of hatred. Syed Abbas states on page 257,
"Those who have committed this evil act against the innocent, the women, the children, to create thousands of widows and orphans do no do so in the name of Islam. By the grace of Allah the Almighty, may justice be served upon them."
4. Mortenson's states that the true core tenants of Islam are justice, tolerance and charity.
Chapter 20:
5. In this situation, news stations from the United States are occupying the Marriot, where Greg and Kathy are visiting for dinner. The waiter's comment suggests that all Americans are impatient and are so busy with their tasks that they don't bother to think of anyone else. Even though both Kathy and Greg are Americans, the waiter does not consider them to be foreigners because they understand and respect the way of life in this part of the world.
6. I believe that Mortenson was not at risk while having tea with the Taliban. Mortenson's intentions were to benefit the people of the Middle Easts and the Taliban supported his ideas.
7. Greg went to Katmandu where the American Consulate was located. To his surprise, when arriving his passport was taken and was then interrogated for his reasons for being in Pakistan. This was because of the attacks that just took place in America and they were suspicious of this history of visiting Pakistan so much. After receiving a one year passport, Mortenson returned to the hotel.
8. William Butler Yeats's "The Second Coming" relates to Three Cups of Tea because it resembles the currently state of the world that was present during the time it was written. Unfortunately, this state is still taking place. In the book, on page 276, it states,
"Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold. Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,/The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere/The ceremony of innocence is drowned;/The best lack all conviction, while the worst/Are full of passionate intensity"
In this book, Three Cups of Tea, Mortenson is the helping the innocent and unfortunate. Even though a war was taking place, Mortenson still felt sympathy for the enemies and still wanted to help them. Greg is still filled with intense compassion to assist others in need.
Chapter 19
1. It is a school where the some of the smartest kids go. A lot of the schools teach militant jihad and also teach them to hate Americans.
2. the reason for this title is because Mortinson was in Pakistan when the two towers where attacked. And a German man told him that it was a man called Osama.
3. The speech said that the men that caused the terrorism did not do it in the name of Islam they basically did it for their own beliefs he also mentioned that not all Pakistani are terrorists.
4. The true core tenants of Islam are Justice, Tolerance, and Charity.
Chapter 20
1. I think this means that the weightier knew hew he was so as soon as a table became available he quickly grabbed them so they wouldn’t have to wait that long in line
2. They thought he was part of the terrorist group, and that he knew where Osama was. So they sat him down and asked him lots of questions.
3. I think that this quote is related because of the situation that happened in 9/11. also how Mortenson wants to help people and kids in need
1. What is a Wahhabi Madrassa? How are they significant? (Explain their purpose and what they hope to achieve - use facts and figures to back up your statement) Well the Taliban would say that they were schools for education for Pakistani children. But although they were schools for Pakistani kids, they were schools that did not teach a proper education and also taught kids a screwed up version of Islam, preparing them to join the Taliban and help with the terror they were causing. They were a very bad influence on the children of Pakistan.
2. What is the significance of the chapter 19 title? Explain. Well the Pakistani people that he talked to in the village when he first found out about 9/11 called New York City “New York Village” and they said that New York Village got bombed.
3. Paraphrase Syed Abbas speech. He is basically just truly hurt by what the Taliban did to the innocent people of America. He is so truly distraught by what his people did that he asks Mortenson for his forgiveness for the acts of the Taliban on New York City. He states how he wants Americans to see and realize that not all Pakistanis/Muslims are terrorists.
4. What does Mortenson say the true core tenants of Islam are? He says that the true core tenants of Islam are justice, tolerance, and charity.
Blog Chapter 20 -Tea With The Taliban
5. "Dr. Greg, Shib, Madame Kathy, come,"...."a table is nearly available, and I fear....foreigners will simply grasp it." Describe what is happening in this situation and what it means. I think that basically the waiter was trying to get them to a table before any of the foreigners simply decided to take it without asking. Im not sure if by foreigners they mean the Taliban or Americans however. Because although Americans are obvious foreigners, they may consider the Taliban foreigners because they invaded Pakistan and started terrible things.
6. Was Mortenson at risk having tea with the Taliban? It does not seem that Mortenson was at risk at all while talking to the Taliban. The entire conversation went quite smoothly. However, I suppose that you could say he was at risk because you never know what the Taliban could’ve done to him. Americans were slightly looked down upon after 9/11 by some people. But it appeared the conversation went smoothly between them the entire time.
7. Describe the happenings at the American Consulate in Katmandu, Nepal. He attempted to get his passport renewed and instead they held onto his passport while he was harassingly interrogated by some American agents that asked him many questions about his work and such in Pakistan, because they were suspicious of what he was working on there. They wanted to know the numbers of everyone he knew in Pakistan and such but Mortenson refused.
8. How does William Butler Yeat's "The Second Coming" relate to Three Cups? The quote that was read from his book very closely relates to the situation in Pakistan that Mortenson was dealing with.
7. He was trying to get his passport renewed but instead they took his passport while he was harassed by some American agents asking him lots of different questions about his work in Pakistan.
1. A Wahhabi Madrassa are school facilities that teach military jihad. They are fortresses that teach Islam extremism. They are significant because they are brainwashing kids and that is obviously a bad thing. They hope to drill jihad into the 'students' and to hate Americans. The results of this are that if it continues, the Wahhabi Madrassa's could spread and the Pakistani population could be trained to be terrorists.
2. Mortenson was in Pakistan when the Twin Towers were hit on 9/11. This title is significant because it highlights the lack of education and how it effects the world. Some people in Pakistan, around the world also, don't know that much about America much less New York.
3. Syed Abbas basically talks about how the Taliban is a small portion that follows Islam, and that the people of Pakistan are simple and kind as a whole. Americans shouldn't generalize about those who follow Islam or even the Muslim culture. It seemed that he was pleading for forgiveness and the benefit of the doubt that not all Islamic followers are terrorists.
4. The true core tentants of Islam are justice, tolerance and charity.
5. What is happening here is that the waiter is worried that the reporters from the US will grab an open table without being seated and that would be disrespectful. The waiter knew that Greg and Kathy were respectful of the way they lived and do things even though they are American. He probably thinks most Americans are impatient and pushy.
6. I don't believe that he was in total danger because Greg is trying to help the kids of Pakistan with education. I don't think they saw him as a threat.
7. At the American Consulate three men from the CIA were interviewing Greg to see his intentions of going to Pakistan and if he was associated with the terrorists.
8. Every part of "The Second Coming" relates to Three Cups of Tea because when it talks about 'mere anarchy is loose and everywhere' it is about the war in Afghanistan and the troubles there. I believe that 'The ceremony of innocence is drowned' means the kindness and overall innocence of the Middle East is declining because of the hard times brought on by the war. 'The best lack all conviction while the worst are full of passionate intensity' is refering to people trying to help Pakistan are soft in giving people the benefit of doubt and trusting, yet the 'worst people' are still trying to help their people but in bad ways and are passionate.
What is a Wahhabi Madrassa? How are they significant? (Explain their purpose and what they hope to achieve - use facts and figures to back up your statement)A Wahabbi Madrassa is basically a Muslim extremist school. They take the smartest or best kids and train them, they eventually want the kids to become parts of terrorist organizations.
What is the signifcance of the chapter 19 title? Explain. The Significance of the title of the chapter, A Village Called New York is when Mortenson first finds out about the terrorist attacks. Mortenson was awakened to Faisil Baig telling him that a village called New York Was bombed, this was 9/11/2001.
Paraphrase Syed Abbas speech. Syeds speech was him sayin that they are a different kind of muslim than him. Those people want violence and Syed Abbas said that he had nothing to do with those actions.
What does Mortenson say the true core tenants of Islam are? Mortenson said that he wants america to see the real part of islam, caring and peaceful people, not the terrorist groups that you hear of.
Blog Chapter 20 -Tea With The Taliban
"Dr. Greg, Shib, Madame Kathy, come,"...."a table is nearly available, and I fear....foreigners will simply grasp it." Describe what is happening in this situation and what it means. They were sitting down to discuss what was going on in New York and there were all kinds of reporters. The quote means that he doesnt want foreigners interfering with their discussion.
Was Mortenson at risk having tea with the Taliban? I think in a way he could have been if they saw him as a true american, but the people in Pakistan see Mortenson as a Pakistani person.
Describe the happenings at the American Consulate in Katmandu, Nepal. They interrogate Mortenson about having connections to terrorist, since he visited pakistan a lot.
How does William Butler Yeat's "The Second Coming" relate to Three Cups? Both of the books relate to each other because they are both about one person having the passion and will power to help the poor.
1) A Wahhabi Madrassa’s are buildings that act like schools in Pakistan that teach the children Saudi rules and laws, trying to make Pakistan become a part of Saudi Arabia. Then they teach the children to go and marry lots of women (4ish), and they spread the word of Saudi faster.
2) The only thing I can think of is that the people of Pakistan that care about Mortenson, and American’s alike call New York a village, like they think they know and it is similar to where they live, or that they are uneducated enough to not know anything about New York driving the point that they should be educated. Other than that it’s not that si
gnificant, I agree that words are powerful but there comes a point when you put words in people’s mouths by overextending a meaning beyond its intent.
3) The parents of Pakistan need to make sure their children get educated, if not they will just mill around and do nothing their whole lives. Two Christian American men came and showed them the “light” of education and he hopes that the rest of America will see that they are not terrorists but lost in darkness without education. He goes on to say that he hopes the Pakistani people can help themselves out of this with the education that was brought to them.
4) Justice, tolerance, and charity!
5) Well a literal meaning would be that a table in finally ready in the restaurant and, because it’s so busy that night from all the news reporters they will have to hurry up and grab it before someone else does. But it also kind of shows how the reporters are taking over all of Pakistan and showing the world how horrible everything is and not letting Mortenson get any credit for him amazing work. They take everything over and there really isn’t anything Mortenson can do about it except get there first and try to make things right.
6) I don’t think Mortenson was at risk by having tea with the Taliban, because they are just people. The Taliban didn’t want to fight, they just wanted to sit back and drink some tea, and it’s not like Mortenson was about to start ragging and aggravating the men into hating him and wanting to hurt him. They just talked about their children and education. When they started talking about the war it was a little touchy of a topic, but the Taliban doesn’t hate Mortenson they hate the American government, why should they hate Mortenson? He is just trying to build schools to better their children’s education.
7) Mortenson lost his passport causing him to need to apply for a new one, because of the recent terrorist attacks (9/11) it became harder for him to get one. He needed to get to the American consulate in Katmandu, Nepal to apply for one. When he gets there they placed him into an interrogation room where three nicely dressed men interrogated him on his business in Pakistan. He explained that he built schools for the children of Pakistan but mostly girls. The interrogators asked him to give them the numbers of everyone he contacted in Pakistan, Mortenson asked to talk to his lawyer. They told Mortenson to go ahead and call his lawyer and come back the next morning. When Mortenson returned the next day there was only one interrogator, he asked Mortenson if any of his students had terrorist parents. Mortenson told them that he would have no knowledge of that because of the number of students he has. Then they proceeded to ask if Mortenson knew anything about where Osama Bin Laden was located. Mortenson held back laughter and replied with a serious enough remark for the interrogator to okay Mortenson’s passport.
8) William Butler Yeat’s “The Second Coming” relates to Three Cups of Tea. To show this to you I’m going to translate actual text into how it relates to three cups of tea sentence by sentence. Yeat’s says “Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold, mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, the blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere.” meaning the people of Pakistan can’t control their feelings towards America when they don’t uphold their promises for peace, and helping Pakistan in its time of need. Pakistan is “falling apart” into terrorism. Yeats goes on to state “The ceremony of innocence is drowned; the best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.” Meaning the people of Pakistan are loosing their innocence, they are getting angry and learning from the Saudi, They are “lacking” in knowledge about how wrong what they are doing is. And the people that hate Americans already (the people teaching the children of Pakistan the Saudi ways) are so full of that hate they are passionate about it; they want to destroy the American’s so badly. When Krakauer read this to try and show people the only way to undo what has already happened is to help educate the children of Pakistan, so that they know America doesn’t hate them, and they want to help. Teach the youth so that in the future this won’t happen again.
Chapter 19
A Wahhabi madrassas is like a bee house. The bees keep their best honey inside, and the Wahhabi maddrassas keep the best students inside. It’s a religious school that trains Muslims. When leaving the school the students are encouraged to take four wives to increase the knowledge of the Islam learned.
Chapter nineteen, “A village called New York” has a large amount of significance. 9/11 occurs in “New York” and the trade towers go down. Mortenson was in Pakistan at the time and had no idea, and people in the village were telling him sorry for the loss of the village New York. So that was how he found out.
Syed Abbas speech was basically introducing the School for the children and stating his apologies for the 9/11 incident. He states how he hopes that American doesn’t think that all of Pakistan is terrorists. He tells the children’s parents to send their children to the school and to take this rare opportunity to get their children the correct education.
The true core tenants of Islam are Justice, Tolerance and Charity.
Chapter 20
I think Madam Kathy meant that they need to sit down fast before all of the American reporters take the seats.
No, because now the Taliban knew that he wasn’t a threat and he was just building schools for children to get an appropriate education.
At the consulate, they took Mortensons passport and wouldn’t let him on the plane. He was interrogated by three men. He was sent back to his hotel with a one year passport when it was all said and done.
The quote relates to Three Cups of Tea because it in a way, states how things fall apart and bad stuff happens. Mortenson, in comparison to this poems meaning, just wants to help that stuff from happening and to help them out in general.
A Wahhabi Madrassa is school that teaches a conservative-fundamentalist version of Sunni Islam and the official state religion of Saudi Arabia's rulers. They are well known for teaching hatred. They teach jihad and how to fight (Taliban like.) The significance of “A village called New York” is Mortenson was in Pakistan at the time and somebody told him the devastating news. Even thought Syed Abbas didn’t completely understand. Mortenson wished Americans could see his Islam people that are good.
1.A wahhabi is a religious school in pakistan.
2.The significance is that he was in Pakistan when the trade towers went down.
3.He wants forgiveness and children to get a better education and have a better life/future
4.Mortenson says justice, tolderance and clarity.
19
1.The Wahhabi Madrassa are building schools as Mortenson is although Saudi Arabia is conducting the Wahhabi Madrassa.
2.I think “A Village called New York” was chosen as the title because it is the main idea of the chapter and it also illustrates the idea of New York to the Pakistani people.
3.Syed Abbas made a powerful speech that made the hairs on my arms stand. At the inauguration that stated education was a light that shined bright and would hopefully bring Pakistan out of the darkness. He said that the terrorist committed one evil act but not to see the Muslim people as all terrorist as he asked for forgiveness of his people.
4.Mortenson explained that the core tenants of Islam are justice, tolerance, and charity in which Syed clearly represented.
20.
1.I think the waiter is referring to the American reporters who aren’t so accustom to the Pakistan ways. I’m sure the reporters in Pakistan for only one reason and that’s obvious, the waiter probably respects Greg and Kathy because they respect her.
2.I believe Mortenson was taking a risk having tea with the Taliban although it turned out to be harmless.
1. The Wahhabi Madrassa is “Pakistan’s most virulent incubator of religious extremism” (Page 242). They feed on all people who have no opinion on life or government, the weak, the oppressed. By building schools, they attract people who only want to learn. They, after now gathering a group of people, start to subliminally teach them how to hate, kill, and give their lives, for the Islam Extremist lies. All who can be bent towards their way of thinking or brainwashed into hating all who are different are targets of this group. The Wahhabi Madrassa need to spread their infection of hate for Americans and those different and undeserving throughout the world.
2. The chapter 19 title referring to New York as a village shows just how secluded the people of Pakistan are in each of their villages. It also shows how uneducated these people are and just how little they know about the world outside of their villages.
3. Syed Abbas described mainly how the people of his village and of Pakistan weren’t the people that were terrorizing the world but were a people of goat herding and peace. He wanted the safety of the Americans to be the first priority of all who lived in the village. He had deep feelings for the power of education in the lives of his people and how much he was thankful for Greg and the other Americans who helped provide this blessing to him and his village.
4. Mortenson says the true core tenants of Islam are justice, tolerance, and charity.
Blog Chapter 20 -Tea With The Taliban
5. After the attack on the World Trade Center in New York, many reporters and news crews were flocking to Pakistan and nearby countries to see of they could get the story on the Taliban. Every hotel, every room was booked so that people had to sleep anywhere there was room. The fact that “these foreigners” might grasp the table shows how ruthless these people are and how far they are willing to go in order to get a story.
6. Greg Mortenson was so involved with the affairs in Pakistan for so long that he was familiar with many of the most powerful people in Pakistan, even the Taliban. He had helped them and was friends with them. But even thought this was true, I figure that events could lead them to turn on him. So this part of the world would have been difficult to live in as an American.
7. While visiting Nepal, Greg was stopped at the passport center of an airport. There he was asked to get a new piece of his passport, and that page was torn out. This made the passport useless and void. Greg was now stuck in the airport. He had to wait it out until a new passport was accepted.
8. "The Second Coming" is a book about extreme anarchy and how badly it was affecting areas of the world. It is a parallel to Three Cups of Tea which also shows how badly anarchy and oppression affect the world.
Chapter 19
1.The Wahhabi Madrassa are all the schools that are being built all over Pakistan by the Wahhabi. Wahhabi’s are the people who follow a conservative offshoot of Sunni. These schools are to convince the children to become extremists. "They're churning out generation after generation of brainwashed students and thinking twenty, forty, even sixty years ahead to a time when their armies of extremist will have the numbers to swarm over Pakistan and the rest of the Islamic world."(Page 244).
2.The significance of chapter 19’s title “A Village called New York” is that you learn more about the Pakistani’s and how they think. “A Village called New York” (pg.253) was said by Faisal Baig, who is Moretenson’s loyal bodyguard after he had heard about the 9/11 attack in New York. He has little understanding about America; and it shows when he says “A Village called New York….” Many people form the Middle East don’t have much knowledge about America and only know the little amount that they have been taught.
3.In Syed Abbas’ speech he made a very moving. He apologized for the 9/11 attack and tried to explain that the Islamic religion does not support the Taliban’s actions and that not all Islams are insincere and full of hatred (pg 257). He wanted everybody to know that they are not all bad in the Middle East.
4.Mortenson says that the core tenants of Islam are justice, tolerance, and charity.
Chapter 20
5.News stations for the U.S. are occupying the Marriot, which is where Greg and Kathy were visiting for dinner. The waiter’s comments were implying that all Americans are pushy and always so busy with things that they don’t care to think of anyone else but themselves. Even though Greg and Kathy both are foreigners and are very respectful people.
6.I think that Mortenson wasn’t at rick while he was having tea with the Taliban. His intentions were truly pure so that he could help the people in the Middle East and the Taliban were very supported of his ideas.
7.Greg went to Katmandu which is where the American Consulate was located. When Greg arrived he found out that his passport was taken and then interrogated because he was living in Pakistan. This was due because of the attacks that just took place in New York and so they were apprehensive of varsity Pakistan so often. After receiving a passport for one year, Mortenson returned to the Marriot.
8.William Butler Yeat’s “The Second Coming” relates to Three Cups of Tea because of the ways of how the government is in the Middle East. It says in the book that “Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, /the blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere/ The innocence is drowned;” it’s saying that there are no rules and people do what they want to, it is hard to maintain innocence. Also when it says, “The best lack all conviction, while the worst/Are full of passionate intensity”, relates to the terrorists being the worst because they are very rude, horrible people who are strongly opinionated about their extreme beliefs.
Blog Chapter 19 - A Village Called New York
1. The Wahhabi Madrassa is “Pakistan’s most virulent incubator of religious extremism.” (Page 242) The Wahhabi Madrassa teaches children how evil Americans are to the point where it promotes terrorism. Most of these children become a part of the Taliban. These groups of people are significant because of the mere fact that without them, there wouldn’t be so much unwanted feelings towards the United States. They are also important because they reflect on their children’s decisions for the future so much and want their children to grow up to be exactly like themselves.
2. I think the title “A Village Called New York” reflects a lot of the culture of the Pakistani people. New York is a huge city and referring it to being a village shows how shadowed their people are from so many different areas of their country. I think it also means that their area is severely crowded and should be expanded to other parts. The attack on New York also has a big deal to do with the chapter’s title. It was almost as unknown to them as we are unknown about a lot of their culture.
3. "We thank Greg and George for their contribution to our village, and are truly sympathetic to the situation in New York. We hope that Allah will service justice upon those who have committed this evil act among the innocent. Also, I hope that Americans will look into our hearts and see that we are not all terrorists."
Syed Abbas speech means basically that not all Pakistan people are terrorists. They are deeply caring people that devote their lives mainly to peace and goat herding. He also states how thankful he is about how Americans have helped out with education so much in his country.
4. Mortenson says the true core tenants of Islam are justice, tolerance, and charity.
Blog Chapter 20 -Tea With The Taliban
1. The attack on the New York trade centers caused a lot of commotion with the news. The hotel that Mortenson was staying at was packed with impatient reporters. This quote states how much of a hurry Americans are to get places and how low they will go to get a story.
2. Mortenson wasn’t at risk when he had tea with the Taliban because he was protected by so many other people and his intentions going in were pure. Mortenson was so aware of the ways at Pakistan, even the Taliban. It would be hard as an American to live in those parts of the country, but luckily Mortenson was on good grounds with them and they supported his help in the building of the schools.
3. Mortenson arrives in Katmandu, Nepal to get a new passport. The guard who he tried to get a new passport from acted very suspicious and was severely questioned. They thought that he was a terrorist and new the whereabouts of Osama.
4. This book relates to three cups of tea because it says in the story that "things fall apart; the centre cannot hold. Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, the blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere the ceremony of innocence is drowned; the best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity" This quote relates a lot to three cups of tea because it is a book about anarchy and how it is affecting the world so much.

Wahhabi Madrassas' are schools built by the government that teach extreme muslims in Pakistan. Their encouraged to marry 4 wives when they leave and move into Pakistan. The meaning of this title is that Mortenson was in Pakistan when 9/11 happend. Someone cam up to him amd asked if he was had heard of the city of New York, because it had been bombed. Syed Abbass' speech was about how Mortenson was only one person, but he had done more for the country of Pakistan than anyone, including Pakistan itself, had ever done.
Chapter 19
1. The Wahhabi Madrassa is a religous school in Pakistan. It is refered to as being set up like a beehive. It is where the more intelligent students go to learn Wahhabi, which is another form of Sunni Islam. When they are done being taught everything they need to know they are encouraged to go out and marry at least four wives. They want them to do this so that this religion or information will spread quicker to others. Wahhabi is forms of teaching telling the students to hate all Americans and American things. One quote in the book caught my eye and it read,"...thirty-eight hundred mosques...$45 million on 'Islamic Education'...six thousand teachers." This is a stunning statistic for the government won't even help build a school and provide a salary in a town called Korphe.

A Wahhabi Madrassa is a school that teaches only muslim principals in Pakistan. It is a conservative, fundamentalist version of the muslim religion. They school and train children in the way of “Wahhabi.”
The children are taught that Americans are bad people and should be hated. More than 80,000 of the students become Taliban recruits.

Here a lot of news crews around the world are there because they are currently prohibited from exiting the country because of the recent terrorist attacks in New York.
6. Was Mortenson at risk having tea with the Taliban?
I don’t believe Mortenson was at risk because he was in a room surrounded by a great number of people. He was also at a VERY secure hotel, the Marriot. “But now, passing through a metal detector, and having his jam-packed journalist’s vest patted down by two efficient security men wearing suits and earpieces, it was Mortenson’s turn to be shocked.” (pg. 262, Mortenson)
7. Describe the happenings at the American Consulate in Katmandu, Nepal.
Greg Mortenson traveled to the American Consulate in Katmandu, Nepal in order to retrieve a new passport. The guard had questioned Mortenson and felt him to be suspicious so he asked him back the next day. When Mortenson came back, he was escorted to another area where he was again questioned. These officials figured Mortenson to have some sort of hand in the Osama happenings.
8. How does William Butler Yeat's "The Second Coming" relate to Three Cups?
"Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold. Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, the blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere/ The cermony of innocence is drowned; the best lack all conviction, while the worst, are full of passionate intensity." (Yeat)
This paragraph from “The Second Coming” correlates to the storyline in “Three Cups of Tea.”
Not only do Americans put a stereotype on the citizens of Pakistan as being some sort of terrorist, but they don’t put much effort forth in order to learn more about the people.
Also, it relates to 9/11 because the people who were killed were innocent.

6. No he wasn't at risk since he was basically known as a local there because of his kindness and help towards most of Pakistan.
7. Well the Americans thought Mortenson was some sort of spy for the terrorists and so the cops were interviewing him trying to find out what he was doing in Pakistan.

Chapter 19
A Wahhabi Madrassa is a building that has many students hidden inside and they are thought war tactics. They compare the building to a "bee house", they are significant because there are trained students and know how to fight in battle and they are brainwashed to hate Americans. The reason they called the chapter what he did, was because there was a village called "New York" that was bombed from what Mortensons was told. He apologizes for what the Taliban had caused. He also recited the core tenants of Islam. The true core tenants are justice, tolerance, and charity.

What is happening is that the waiter was telling them that the table is kind of available and if they want it they better get it before the foreigners because the foreigners are very inpatient and will take it in a hurry. No he wasn't because he was no threat to the Taliban. The Feds sat next to him and started to ask him questions. He is relating the things that have been happening there to what has been happening in America.
